Her experiences trying to get UnitedHealthcare to cover the infusions she needs to live without overwhelming pain have radicalized this former Republican lawmaker. <\/p>\n<p>Coffey has channeled her pain into activism through <a href=\"https:\/\/careovercost.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">People\u2019s Action\u2019s Care Over Costs campaign<\/a>, an effort that\u2019s pressuring private health insurers to end denials and onerous prior authorization requirements. <\/p>\n<p>What makes equality so important to her: \u201cUnitedHealthcare would rather leave me in torture than grant me the peace my infusions bring,\u201d Coffey noted at a protest in New York last week. \u201cI\u2019m asking for a life worth dignity.
